Isaiah 30:29 – Ye shall have a song, as in the night when a holy solemnity is kept; and gladness of heart, as when one goeth with a pipe to come into the mountain of the Lord, to the mighty One of Israel. (KJV)

Although I am often in awe at the complete appropriateness in the pairing of hymns to the Daily devotionals, I am told that except for those few times when one may be requested, no particular thought or concerted effort goes into trying to choose the "right" hymn for the "right" writing.

I have often wept with overwhelming joy when hearing a hymn that seems so perfectly paired with a devotional piece. And many's the time a reader has written in reply that I'd chosen "the perfect hymn", and I tell them that it wasn't I who made the choice — so, if not the Technical Editor — I can only deduce that the ultimate chooser is Him.

Interesting, isn't it? There are so many times when, as writers, words just come, when what we write seems like it is just flowing from somewhere, through our fingers onto the keys. There are times in our lives when we do or do not do things as we allow ourselves to be guided accordingly; times when we silently utter those little prayers and things "fall" into place. Times, too, I guess, when what is chosen as an accompanying hymn for the Daily devotional turns out to be the perfect piece.

Through perhaps a play on words, I am reminded of the hymn, "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace", which was inspired by Isaiah 26:3 – "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee." (KJV)

What this says to me is that He trusts us to put our trust in Him — to let Him lead us in whatever it is we are doing, for all things come through Him, from Him.

Prayer: Our heavenly Father, we acknowledge with thanks Your guidance in all we do. Help us always to listen to that still, small voice for direction. In Your name we pray. Amen.
