Proverbs 28:19 – He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread. (KJV)

2 Kings 19:29 – And this shall be a sign unto thee, Ye shall eat this year such things as grow of themselves, and in the second year that which springeth of the same; and in the third year sow ye, and reap, and plant vineyards, and eat the fruits thereof. (KJV)

It's interesting how with patience, things grow and multiply; be those things crocus bulbs bursting, blooming in the spring, then in the course of the fall and winter, silently, softly, multiplying to bring forth more plants the following year; or ideas to which one is committed, working steadily, patiently, to see them to fruition.

Such is Daily as I see it. Five years ago today, it was the brainchild, or seed, if you will, of our now Technical and Oversight Editor. If memory serves me correctly, he began by doing it all. For the first three months, he wrote most of the devotionals; later he edited the contributions he was able to recruit, and collected and posted the feedback — as well as seeing to all the technicalities involved. He added the PrayerLine after a year. The writers were few, the readership no more than 80 per day on the web-site.

At times perhaps, it may have seemed the daily growth was rather slow. However, it seems to me that after two years, the e-mailed version was begun, and the numbers both in writers contributing and readers subscribing saw something of a surge and a steady uphill swing. So much so, that by the third year, it became too much for someone who held a full-time job and was working at Daily on a volunteer basis. A Subscriptions and Feedback Editor was added, as was a Devotional Editor. The original "sower of the seed" retained the position of Technical and Oversight Editor.

I had been thinking about a relative who holds a special "Christmas in July" celebration for friends who traditionally spend Christmastime with their families and are unable to spend it with my relatives. It occurred to me that since the seeds of Daily were sown in May — more than just a "Happy Anniversary" was in order — perhaps it was worthy of a "Thanksgiving in May".

Thank you, Robin, for sowing the seed. Thank you, James and Jane Anne, for picking up the tilling, and assisting in the cultivation. Thank you, writers and Daily's many readers, for being instrumental in watering this garden on a Daily basis, gently nurturing it, and encouraging it to grow. Ultimately, Thanks Be To God.

Prayer: Dear Lord, we thank you for the perseverance of some of your people; who plant seeds for your gardens in our lives; who patiently nurture those seeds and help them grow — often, or sometimes at the expense of their personal time, of their personal lives.
