1 Peter 2:9 – But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. (NIV)

I shall not forget the day when our minister came to our house for lunch. We live close to a golf course, and my husband invited him to bring along his golf clubs. Although my husband does golf, he has had a problem with his knee, so guess who had to go golfing? Yes, it was I.

I remember as we started off and I came up to the first tee. I kept my head down and I prayed earnestly, "O Lord, please don't let me miss this shot." Well, I didn't, and as we proceeded with the game, I relaxed and had quite a pleasant time. In some ways we got to know one another in a different light.

Speaking of light, on one of the greens as I looked down to putt my ball toward the cup, I looked and my shadow was over the ball. I took a side view of where I was aiming, and then, using self-control, I putted the ball with confidence, "out of the darkness into the light". Yes, the ball dropped in the cup!

Here is where my message comes to the point I wish to make. We struggle in darkness till we come to Christ. Then we enter into His blessed light, never to look back. It is by walking in the light of Christ that we build up our lives and gain the confidence to remain firm in our faith.

1 Thessalonians 5:5-6 – You are all sons of the light and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be alert and self-controlled. (NIV)

Prayer: Dear Lord, help us to find our way out of darkness into light. Let Your light shine before us as a beacon to guide us along the way. May our faith hold firm and help us to follow in the light. In Jesus' name. Amen.
