Luke 24:5-7 – Full of fear, the women bowed down to the ground, as the men said to them, "Why are you looking among the dead for one who is alive? He is not here; he has been raised. As I look out my window, it is hard to believe that a month ago southern Ontario's groundhog prognosticator, Wiarton Willy, predicted an early spring. Although our snow has been reduced to a few dirty mounds where the snowplow piled it, it sure doesn't look like spring. The grass is still brown, and the farmers' fields are still covered with the bent leftovers from last fall's harvest. Everything is dull and dreary.

But while driving to church one recent morning, I saw my first robin of spring! A little further down the road, a flock of tundra swans were resting in a field. Having just crossed Lake Erie, they were gathering strength to continue their trek northward. When I returned home, I noticed that my tulips were poking through the debris left in my garden by winter winds. Spring is coming!

As we experience the miracles of spring, let's remember the miracle of the cross. We are waiting, not for the crucifixion, but for the resurrection of our Saviour. The life of Jesus is echoed in the signs of spring. The miracles are everywhere. Life is alive and growing, waiting to burst forth, just as Jesus left the cold dark tomb. Can you feel spring coming?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, You sent your Son to die for us. As we wait impatiently for spring to arrive, help us to remember the miracle of the cross: although Jesus died, He arose to give us new life. Amen.
