Hebrews 12:2a – Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross. (NIV)

A couple of years ago I got new glasses — invisible bifocals. At first, I thought they were great because I could read with my glasses on. (I'd had to take my glasses off to read for some time.) After a while, however, I started to have problems with them, and if I moved too quickly, I got dizzy. (With the invisible bifocals one has to focus on what one is looking at.) I've recently changed to the regular bifocals but I still occasionally have problems focusing.

Don't we also often have difficulty focusing in our Christian walk? When we're focused on Jesus Christ we see clearly, but when we become distracted by the busyness of our everyday lives or the things of the world, everything becomes blurred.

Are we seeing clearly or is our vision blurred? Some ways to keep our focus on Jesus Christ are through

• reading the Bible
• praying
• fellowship with other Christians
• reading Christian books, and
• listening to Christian music.

The next time we find our vision blurring, let us remember the words of today's music:

Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in His wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of our eyes. May we always stay focused on Your Son, Jesus, so that we can see clearly. Open our eyes, Lord; we want to see Jesus. Amen.
