I really enjoy history. One of my favourite eras is that of the events leading up to and including World War II. I find this time in Germany to be very interesting. The attack on the church is particularly interesting to me. As Hitler worked on tearing apart the Christian church in Germany, there was not much opposition to him from the church itself. There were some who did oppose the Nazis — men such as Pastors Bonhoeffer and Neomoller. This they did not do to make a name for themselves. Bonhoeffer paid with his life in the end, and Neomoller spent many years in Dachau. They spoke out because of the Gospel. It did not matter what happened to them. They had to stick to their faith and they had to share that faith.

I am reminded from the verse today that as the children of God we should be raising up our voices in praise of God. We should not be sitting in a closet saying nothing and hiding our faith. Instead, we should be overjoyed to share with others how much we love God and what he has done for us. Our lives should reflect Christ's work in us and this should not be hidden away.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we pray that we may never be ashamed of your name. Grant that your praises will always be on our lips. We pray that we will be lights in this world, showing your love. May our lights never diminish but instead increase in brightness. In Jesus' name. Amen.
