Psalm 20:1 – May the Lord answer you in the day of trouble. (NKJV)

As a little girl, I went with my father down to the lake. While we were there, he invited me to go for a boat ride. As we stood on the solid dock, I remember looking at the boat bobbing on the water, and feeling the solidity of the dock, then gazing in terror at the watery gap between the two.

"Jump onto the boat," my father urged.

As I did, the boat shifted, and down I went into the water. My father pulled me out, wet and shivering.

To this day, I remember this incident whenever I have to move from the security of what I know, to the uncertainty of the future. But by faith and experience, I know my heavenly Father is there to bridge the gap between all my endings and beginnings, and this gives me courage to go on.

Prayer: Ever-present God, hold our hand as we take those leaps of faith from day to day. We ask for those facing new beginnings, that You will give them courage. Help us to remember to pray for them. In Jesus' name. Amen.
