With the new millennium at hand, I have thought about doing something — like losing a few unwanted pounds.

I have been on numerous diets in the past, only to realize at the end that short-term diets do not work for me. Eventually, I would regain all the weight that I had lost, plus some! I have come to the conclusion that if I want something like losing weight to last, a diligent, consistent and sacrificial action, on my part, would be required. With that thought in mind, I have decided to go for a daily walk. My friend June was delighted when I shared my plan with her, and she offered to meet me halfway and walk with me. But, for me, that means getting up early! This will be a real sacrifice on my part, as I like my sleep! I know this will be a long process, but the end results will be gratifying.

In the same way, this process holds true in a believer's life. Christ Jesus died for you and me, once for all — God's ultimate sacrifice for mankind. We are called to accept this truth, diligently study His word to us in the Bible and apply the truths revealed to us to our lives. Our consistent and sacrificial actions, under the direction of the Holy Spirit, will produce fruits of love and will enable us each to grow into a more mature man or woman. The end result or our final reward will be most gratifying — we shall be like Him, enjoying everlasting life!

Prayer: Dearest Jesus, help us to be consistent, diligent and sacrificial in everything that we undertake, so that in our daily living, honour is brought to Your holy name forever and ever. Amen.
