1 John 5:11,12 – And the witness is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life. (NASB)
Romans 6:23 – For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (NASB)

Have you ever read a story in a book that you never wanted to end? One time that happened to me. The story had me laughing, crying, amazed and intrigued as I turned the pages. At times, I imagined myself as the heroine in the story and I wanted the story to go on and on, and never end. Finally, at the conclusion of the book, I longed for a "happy ending".

Such a story exists today, tomorrow and in the future for all of us and does indeed have a "happy ending".

The story begins at our birth and continues throughout our lifetime. Every day a page is written with invisible ink, pages that reveal laughter, sorrow, joy, trials and excitement. Every detail, every deed, every tear is recorded by a loving Hand. They are living pages of life and death.

"But," you may ask, "my life is going down the tubes. I have made a mess of it. How can my story have a happy ending?" The wonderful part is that when we put our trust in Christ, God gets to write the last page of our story, and it is always a happy one. When we enter into the eternal life in Jesus, the ending is already written in the Lamb's Book of Life. We get glimpses of it as written in God's Book: "all things work together for good to them that love God" (Romans 8:28) and "thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." (1 Corinthians 15:57)

As the final chapter of our lives slowly comes to a conclusion, we can live continually in the free gifts of God: forgiveness for our messed-up lives, and eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. And certainly, after that, an eternity with our Heavenly Father can only be both a "happy ending" and a "new beginning"!

Prayer: Thank you Jesus, that You would die on a cross for us so that we may inherit eternal life. Amen.
