Work in Progress

Listen while you read: "When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder"1  (Lyrics)

God must have spent a little more time on you.
In all of creation, all things great and small,
You are the one that surpasses all.

Country singing group Alabama sings the lyrics of this love song. I am impressed by the fact that this group believes there is a God. I think the words can be used to describe God's role in the creation of each of his children.

We are lovingly fashioned by a God who focuses on the details of our physical appearance, and our personality. This God knows us, loves us, and saves us.

Isaiah 44:24 – I am the Lord, your saviour; I am the one who created you. I am the Lord, the Creator of all things. (GNB)

I invite you to think of a time when you completed a project. Perhaps you stitched a counted cross-stitch piece, knit a sweater, built a birdhouse, wrote a song, or painted an oil painting. You focused your complete attention on the task. You spent countless hours on your project. You were happy each time a section or portion was added to the previous one. You smiled. You eagerly anticipated the finished work. Best of all you imitated God your creator by engaging in a creative activity.

Remember God focuses attention completely on us. He spends countless hours watching, waiting, and answering our prayers. I wonder if God also smiles at the work in progress, and looks forward to its completion.

Prayer: Creator God, thank you for lovingly creating us. We praise you for sticking with us, and watching us grow into the people you want us to become. Help us to remember you are always with us, and, like the dedicated project manager, you will not give up on this work in progress. Amen.
