Luke 11:1 – And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples. (KJV)

The two verses following today's scripture continue with the Lord giving his disciples the Lord's Prayer.

Who among us can honestly say that their minds have never wandered during prayer? There are times when we have so much on our minds — worries about families, finances, test results, or even some exciting upcoming event — that even the most focused mind among us wanders away a bit.

Some people feel they are failures at prayer because their minds never seem to stay focused. They could not be further from the truth.

A minister in our prayer group put it perfectly: "So your mind wanders 200 times — that is 200 opportunities to return to God, and His grace will be present at every experience."

Christ gave us The Lord's Prayer that we may each have it as our own; as our source of strength; as words to pray when our own fail. He hears our every word, knows our every thought. He knows what is troubling us, and what brings us joy. If our minds wander, let us use His prayer to return to Him. Let us use His prayer to build upon, sentence by sentence, interjecting with words of thanks for even the littlest of pleasures we have been given.

In life, opportunities to return to something may not be offered, may have a time frame, or may not be a good idea.

As long as we live, our opportunities to come to Christ in prayer are not bound by a "Limited Time Offer".

Prayer: We thank you, Father, for giving us your prayer. In your name we pray. Amen.
