1 Peter 1:6,7 – In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that your faith – of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire – may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honour when Jesus Christ is revealed. It was raining during our regular group walk this morning, and a friend who had been walking slowly behind with others, said "Did you see all the starfish?! There's so many!" We had to confess that we hadn't noticed, as we'd been too deep in conversation.

On the way back, we took the time to stop and look. There were large ones, middle-sized ones, small ones. Orange, pinkish, purple. There were many and they were magnificent! I found my friend's words to be very profound when she said, "We see so much more in the rain!" While she was speaking literally, referring to the starfish, I was thinking more figuratively.

You see, our group has suffered all kinds of trials through the grief that accompanies the loss of a loved one. They have experienced much "rain", and yet, it is through the sharing of the rain in their lives, that we all see so much more.

I speak only for myself, but the rain in my life has strengthened my faith, and my faith is what enables me to help others through the rain in theirs. We do see so much more in the rain; for without rain, we would not have rainbows. We would not be challenged, and we might never know the true strength of faith.

Prayer: We know we must all experience some rain in our lives, some, more than others. May our faith be strengthened during these times, and may we in turn have the faith and the strength to walk through the rain with others. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
