One of the things included in the excitement of heading back to university for my daughter and her friends, is the anticipation of gathering at our home for Thanksgiving.

We never know who will all be here, but there is always a cornucopia of kids. They come in all sizes, from all walks of life and with all kinds of things for which to be thankful. I don't remember when this tradition started, but everyone must state at least one thing for which they are thankful. No one is exempt, not even those who come late, after dinner is finished. To be here, is to say a word of thanks.

It's wonderful the way the word goes around. Some will bring us all to tears, someone else will ease that emotion with a lighthearted word of thanks, but a word of thanks nevertheless. Some may have theirs all prepared and be sidewinded by the person before them, forcing them to come up with yet another thing to state for their thanks.

Some find they have more to say after they've heard what else was said. Some are very nervous, but do fine and return the next year. Even those of us who give thanks every day, are waiting to give thanks at Thanksgiving, for in hearing the thanks of others, we realize how very much we have to give thanks for.

Prayer: We thank you Lord, for all you give us, for all you do within our lives. We thank you for our friends and families, children, husbands and wives. We thank you Lord, because you care. We thank you for our daily bread. We thank you Lord, for the times we share, today, tomorrow, and in the days ahead. In your name we pray. Amen.
