1 Kings 19:11-12 – He said, "Go out and stand on the mountain before the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by." Now there was a great wind, so strong that it was splitting mountains and breaking rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake, and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a sound of sheer silence.

Where do you find God, pastor? As a minister that is a question I am often asked. To me the answer is unlimited. As I sit and write this, we are receiving a warm gentle rain, a rain that has been prayed for in this area for a long time. I can see the hand of God in the rain. I have sat with a dying man, holding his hand, and seeing his mouth form into a beautiful smile, and a peace come over him just as he passed on into the arms of Jesus. God was surely in that moment. I have stood in the delivery room and watched the miracle of birth twice, once with my son and once with my daughter. My wife may not have seen God in the moment, but she does now. As I watched those tiny infants being born, I knew what it must have been like to see God at creation.

"Where do you find God, pastor?" The answer I give is, "Open your eyes and you can see the hand of God all around you."

Prayer: Heavenly Father help me to see you in all of your creation. Help me to see you when I am having a mountain-top experience and also when I am down in the lowest valley. Help me to see you in all my life. Amen.
