My eyes have had trouble focusing a lot lately, part of it is astigmatism I've had off and on for years, now aggravated by close computer work. Part of it is of course, that impending big number in middle age.

I recently had to be away for ten days, and while I welcomed the break as perhaps a rest for my unfocusing eyes, I was concerned that it may perhaps cause me to lose focus in another area…my devotionals.

We all know what it is like when we're at someone else's "mercy"…It's wonderful to be there, but you don't want to upset premade plans; don't wish to impose; routines aren't the same and well, eyes aside, it could be easy for one to become unfocused in other areas such as diet, exercise, daily routines, and writing.

I needn't have worried. The familiar old phrase "oh ye of little faith" rumbled through my thoughts, and I often smiled as sign after sign was so clear that He was near. I'm sure God has a sense of humour, as every outcome was positive, from weathering a wretched thunderstorm to being asked to switch seats several times on my flight home. And I believe it's because I believed that He was in charge and that everything would be okay.

When we are accepting of things that are beyond our control; or when we are open to options; believing that all things work for the good, we are able to maintain our focus, particularly where it applies to our faith.

Prayer: We thank you Lord, for giving us that extra bit of guidance when we fear we may fall a little away. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
