Psalm 145:2-3 – Every day I will bless you, and praise your name forever and ever. Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; his greatness is unsearchable.

We all have a litany of complaints we offer to the Almighty when the days are dark and we are down and life is hard and circumstances make even getting up in the morning a real chore.

If pushed, we could all come up with our Christmas wish list of junk we think we need, and the 'gimme' prayer is rather impressive at times, especially when we have the right set of circumstances facing us in life. But what about a prayer of praise – prayer offered for no other purpose than to give God the glory. How often have such prayers rolled off your lips? There was a song a long time ago that said: "I just called to say that I love you… I just called so you'd know that I care." Has any such call gone out from the centre of your soul into the mind of your Maker?

We of all the peoples of the earth are most blessed, not only in the knowledge of Christ our Lord, but blessed with every blessing this earth has to offer.

We are the ones who need to meditate on God's wondrous works, the might of God's awesome deeds, and so we should be the ones to declare the greatness of the Lord.

Prayer: All of creation, Lord, ourselves included, will bless your name – "All your works shall give thanks to you, O Lord, and all your faithful shall bless you." Amen.
