1 Corinthians 2:9 – No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those how love him.

Recently, my wife mentioned that she thought that the windshield wipers on our car were not working properly. She said they leaving streaks. The next time it was raining (which was soon in our West Coast climate!), I looked carefully at the streaks, which I had not noticed before. It was possible that they were caused by the windshield wipers, rather than by an oily film on the glass. So I went to the auto parts store and picked out two blades. It took a while in the rain to figure out how to replace them, but when I turned them on, lo and behold! they cleaned the rain off perfectly — no streaks!

Seeing this, my thirteen year old son, David, said, "Dad, there's a sermon in that."

I was intrigued. "What kind of sermon do you mean?"

"Well, you never know what it will be like to have faith in God until after you try it."

I was bowled over by this simple truth from one so young. And then I began to think of similar truths: we will never know what will happen if we trust God's promises until we act as if they're true; we will never know what God has prepared for those who love Him unless we actually love Him. Fortunately, He never lets us down.

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, that you are dependable: when we trust you, You prove Yourself trustworthy. Help us to persevere in that trust, until You reveal the wonders You have prepared for us. In Jeus' name. Amen.
