Psalm 42:11 – Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; for I shall yet praise Him, the help of my countenance and my God.

Are you feeling down today? All of us go through those days, even such a great Christian as Martin Luther. One day when Luther was downcast and despairing, his wife came into the room and announced excitedly, "Have you heard the news? God is dead!" Luther told his wife not to joke about such sacred matters. His wife then came back with this pointed comment. "Then if God is not dead, what right have you, his servant, you, a Christian man, to be so downcast and depressed?"

Yes, God is still on the throne of the universe. He is still in control. In those hours of darkness when we think that everything has caved in on us, God has not forgotten about us. He is still at work bringing about a magnificent plan for our lives. Sometimes God has to bring us to the end of our resources before He can show us His unlimited resources. Sometimes God has to destroy our confidence in ourselves before He can teach us to trust in Him alone. Through those times of despair, remember, God has not forgotten you. He is still at work.

Prayer: Thank You, O God, that even the worst problem we may have has not caught You by surprise. By Your sovereignty, reassure us that You are still in charge. In Jesus' name. Amen.
