Isaiah 64:8 – Lord, you are our father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand.

While in Newfoundland with the Atlantic Ecumenical Council, I had opportunity to visit a hermitage which had a resident potter. He displayed for us the creative process that transformed a lump of clay into a wonderful new creation. Just when I thought he had reached perfection, he dug in his thumbs and began to recreate the clay. The transformation was total – it became something new and different, something that had moments before gleamed in the eyes of the potter and appeared out of the clay.

And I realize again, as I have so many times, that, in the mind of God, I am constantly transformed, and that the clay is not set, and that I am under construction, and thankfully, that God is not done with me yet. And I know with a certainty, as did Isaiah, that "we are all the work of your hand."

Prayer: Maker and moulder of all matter and material, we pray this day that you will take us and touch us and mould us and make us into new creations through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
