Psalm 63:1-2 – O God, you are my God, I seek you, my soul thirsts for you, my flesh faints for you, … I have looked upon you in the sanctuary, beholding your and glory.

I have had people come into the church at night and ask me if I don't find it spooky here when there is no sound but the creak of a board or the twang of a heating pipe, or that other sound that has no origin on earth. And I smile but rarely say that the sound of silence at St. Andrew's is the most soothing sound in all creation… well, maybe second to Kedge and the wilderness, but a close second. In both cases the absence of sound or the cessation of noise allows for a wonderful journey to the very center of one's being, to a place some may call the soul.

And the peace that passes understanding comes when minds and hearts are centred on the knowledge and love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord, and only then. And I am at peace in the sanctuary of silence.

Prayer: Lord, because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you. So I will bless you as long as I live; I will lift up my hands and call on your name. Amen. (Psalm 63:3-4)
