Frank Herbert in one of his Dune Science Fiction novels calls fear the little mind-killer – the destroyer of peace and hope and happiness. Fear takes away any sense of peace we might have…

about life,
about death,
about life after death.

Let not your hearts be troubled.
You believe in God.

Belief.

Morag Morris in Angels on our Bedpost said: "My faith is a little thing. It flickers in the wind. It is not as big as it should be, nor is it as strong, but it is the center of me, and it keeps me going."

At the core of our being is our true self, our spiritual self, all that makes us who and what we are. And it is here, deep within, deep down where we rarely go, and where we even more infrequently allow others to go, that we find the place that Jesus touches with his gift,
with his peace,
with his healing presence,
for this is the place where all the hurts and hates and heaped-up horrors of life come and seek shelter, and it is here that they can be helped and healed and made whole. And Jesus calls this peace – shalom… the peace of God in the midst of the storm.

Prayer: In the storms of life, O Christ, give me your peace and I shall be content. Nothing matters as much as your presence. Teach me to be still and know you, that I may no longer fear the storms of life, for you are the Lord of all. Amen.
