Psalm 144:15 – Happy are the people to whom such blessings fall; happy are the people whose God is the Lord.

Dr. Karl Menninger once observed, "Attitudes are more important than facts." And when you are seeking happiness in life this is doubly true. How you perceive life will determine life. How others perceive you will reinforce your happiness or your lack of it.

With what attitude do you approach the day? Do you wake with joy in your heart? Do you anticipate the events of the day and crack a little smile as you think of what awaits? Do you whistle while you work? If you are anything like the average person in North American society, this isn't a very precise picture of your day to day life. Drudgery is a closer description, endurance the key, instead of unbridled joy; seeking to survive one day at a time instead of finding that the joy of the Lord is your strength.

Happiness "is not a destination; it is a manner of travelling," wrote Dr. Haim Ginott. "Happiness is not an end in itself. It is a by-product of working, playing, loving and living." It comes when you throw yourself wholeheartedly into life, into love, into service.

What a marvellous expression of happiness and how we acquire happiness in our daily living. Happiness is founded on daily attitudes and activities. Happiness is the by-product of a meaningful life.

Prayer: Thank you, God, for the day you give us, filled as it is with all the time necessary to bring a little joy and happiness into the lives of others. God, if our chief end is still to glorify and enjoy you, help us today to fulfill our high and holy calling to the glory and praise of the name of Jesus. Amen.
